With the advent of smart phones such as the Apple iphone and Android style phones, photography as a hobby is really taking off. The iphone has even spawned a whole new genre of photography known as iphoneography (iphone photography). For truckers this creates an opportunity to easily take interesting photos on the road and even keep a journal of your on-the-road experiences. With free and inexpensive apps for the phone, you can even do photo editing on the phone itself; editing which used to require a desktop computer.

Also the smart phones enable you to quickly upload your photos and videos to your website, photo blog, or a free online photo sharing program like Flickr and Picasa.

On the road you will see interesting landscapes, people, and places. Share these with family and friends at home through your photos. You can also use them to keep a record or journal of your experiences as a trucker. One day, you may retire and these photos will bring back memories like nothing else can.

The iphone offers a host of apps you can download to your phone to edit your photos. Cropping, resizing, and adding special effects can improve your photos and also make them more interesting. Even professional photographers are getting on board. The iphone has the ability to create full size professional quality photos. Even though there are not the controls a professional digital camera has, by experimenting with different light directions, you can get high quality photos with a little practice. And with the apps you can get even more quality and special effects on your photos.

Most of the apps I downloaded to my phone were either free and purchased for only a couple of bucks. That is a lot less expensive than many of the photo editing software programs for your computer such as Photoshop. They're easier to use too.

The secret to taking good pictures is practice and developing an eye for picture composition. If you already have a smart phone, you have just about all the equipment you need. It's just a matter of using it in your travels and taking a lot of pictures. Like anything else, it takes a lot of pictures to get a few really good ones. With a smart phone you won't be paying hundred of dollars for film. If you take a bad picture, just delete it...no wasted film.
